Meeting Bud Selig is Everything You’d Thought It’d Be

Last night, Safeco Field in Seattle hosted an Evening at the Ballpark benefiting the Green Sports Alliance.  Among its special guests was MLB Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig.

The stated purpose of the event was “To celebrate Commissioner Selig’s support and leadership in greening Major League Baseball and the success of the Green Sports Alliance.”

One thing that hasn’t bloomed after all these years is the Commish’s personality.

Brian - at the event with his new venture Thinking About Sports - passed this encounter along:

I am having dinner at Safeco Field - literally on the field, my seat is placed on top of where third base would normally be. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig is here as well.

I walked up to Mr. Selig and said “Nice to meet you. As a lifelong baseball fan I really just wanted to say that I had met the Commissioner of Baseball” and reached out to shake his hand.

He shook my hand and replied, “Now you have” and walked away.
